Publisher Description

The end is beginning. The time is just a few short years from now. But already the signs of global disaster are multiplying. Freak storms, earthquakes, floods volcanic eruptions are sweeping the earth. The last violent spasms of a dying planet. Then a series of ominous events signal the emergence of new and terrifying forces.

While scuba-diving on the Great Barrier Reef a diver watches fascinated as a tiny light floats past him towards the surface. Moments later he is torn to pieces as the reef erupts with shattering power. In the Chinese city of Kashi, travellers bring back reports of a strange light seen shining above the endless dunes of the Taklimakan Desert. And as the city's inhabitants watch for its return the desert rises up like a vast living thing to engulf them in a colossal tidal wave of sand. All have seen a portent: a sign of unimaginable powers about to be unleashed. A sign that something incredible is about to begin.

Amazing Story!

I purchased this book by James Herbert, many years ago. It was in the written word/book format. I was younger then and living In the UK. (Where I was born and originally come from ).
James Herbert’s books were readily available everywhere in bookstores, throughout the UK. I loved to read each new book JH wrote. Sharing them with family & friends. Being overwhelmed by each storyline and of course, hoping to see if any would be made into movies. It was a very different world for me, back then.
These days I live in Virginia (after immigrating to the U.S.A.)
Recently I wanted to re-read my favorite books, but due to issues with my eyesight (diabetic neuropathy), I can no longer focus on regularly printed words. I end up frustrated and unable to read because the words are all too small.
I decided to replace my written word/books with audiobooks, and I am so glad I did. It’s a new (to me) dynamic way of storytelling which I am very entertained by. I enjoy listening to how the “narrator”vocalizes each character. And how each character’s accent and colloquial dialogue is so uniquely created by the narrator, that I forget it’s one person narrating. It’s engaging and thrilling to listen to. However; there are times that I fall asleep! I learned very fast how to use the timer incase I fell asleep again. After that, I didn’t lose my place too far ahead, and it was easy to backtrack to where I remembered the story being left off.
I also enjoy listening to my audiobooks in my headphones. What a wonderful way to get on with my housework and laundry etc. The time seems to fly by, which always helps to get the chores done! I don’t drive, but listening to these audiobooks in the car (with my hubby driving), improves the overall journey, especially on long distance trips. He is beginning to enjoy the experience too.
I highly recommend listening to audiobooks. At any age.
I thoroughly enjoy kicking back and curling up listening to a good storyteller narrate an enjoyable story, is the most satisfying and relaxing evening in my hubby and I have had in long while. Thank you.
