An electrifying first novel that shocks by its language, its circumstances, and its brutal honesty, Push recounts a young black street-girl's horrendous and redemptive journey through a Harlem inferno. For Precious Jones, 16 and pregnant with her father's child, miraculous hope appears and the world begins to open up for her when a courageous, determined teacher bullies, cajoles, and inspires her to learn to read, to define her own feelings and set them down in a diary.

A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH
All I can say is keep your head up. This was no holds barred. This is the phoenix from the fire. I saw the movie. I was inspired to get the book (they're always better). From coal, this child, yes child, pulled her own bootstraps and makes herself a diamond. This is proof of a positive from a negative. It's sad that the human condition is so dysfunctional, a child would suffer this kind of pain and anquish, but she shines. To all the Precious of the world, do what you have to do and keep doing it. Brava Sapphire.
One of few books that is better on audiobooks. A troubling story, but one that everyone should read. Top-notch!
So raw and graphic it was hard to listen to at times, but at the same time an amazing story. Precious is beautiful. Her world is a cruel place but she never gives up her dreams.
