Publisher Description

This is a story about craft, about work, about magic, and most of all about the pleasure and difficulty of friendship.

It begins when four young misfits with a talent for magic (and trouble!) arrive at Winding Circle Temple. Despite their differences, Sandry (the noble), Tris (the merchant girl), Daji (the trader), and Briar (the "street rat") find themselves bound together in a Circle of Magic - a circle they will need when they face crushing danger in a white-knuckle climax that will have listeners glued to the edges of their seats.

Follow the adventures of all the young mages-in-training with Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic series.

Great story

When 4 children of different lives are brought together for one reason, their whole lives change. They all discover that they have magic, but not of the normal sort. One child’s magic is centered on tread and needle work, another metal and its working, one plants, the last weather. They realize that they have to put their differences aside to deal with the problems they have. This book is focused on Sandry whose magic is tread. In the end of the book she may have spun all four children’s lives together so close they may never be far from each other. I would recommend this book for people age 11 and up.

Don't bother

Tamora's Circle of Magic series and The Circle Opens series aren't all that good. Her Tortall books are much better. If you like Harry Potter, Eragon, Eldest and Lord of the Rings, then read The Song of the Lioness quortet (Alanna, In the Hand of the Goddess, Woman Who Rides Like A Man, and Lioness Rampant), the Immortal quortet (Wild Magic, Wolf-Speaker, Emperor Mage, and In the Realms of the Gods).
