The mystical version of France that Shelby Mahurin creates for this fantastical adventure is perfect for a budding romance—and for an epic, magic-fueled war. In the first installment of the Serpent & Dove series, a battle has been raging for centuries between witches and the Church. So when brash young witch-on-the-run Louise “Lou” le Blanc and idealistic and dutiful witch-hunter Reid Diggory find themselves in the unthinkable position of having to marry each other, things couldn’t be more complicated. Between Lou’s boisterous sense of humor and Reid’s wry stoicism, this odd couple is opposites-attract perfection. We loved the intense magical lore that Mahurin packs into this fascinating world, not to mention plenty of well-developed supporting characters like Lou’s lovable BFF, Coco. This is where narrators Holter Graham and Saskia Maarleveld truly shine, giving each new character an unmistakable voice. As Serpent & Dove’s romance finally reaches a crescendo, so does the war, leaving us reaching for the next audiobook to hear what will happen to Lou and Reid.

I liked it!
If you’re a fan of fantasy and romance, I’d recommend it! I’m not obsessing over it, but very much enjoyed following the story. I did have to subtract a star though because Think the male narrator was awful… It seemed like he had one setting - intense, grouchy, and growly. I don’t think he did the multi-dimensional written character justice…
Good book/ wrong male voice
The book is great but the male narrator takes me out of the book.
He does villains really well but the main character sounds smarmy and nasally and that takes me out of the story. I will be finishing the book with a physical copy.
