Sometimes the difference between a love story and a horror story is where the ending comes...
While Jude fought for power in the Court of Elfhame against the cruel Prince Cardan, her sister Taryn began to fall in love with the trickster, Locke.
Half-apology and half-explanation, it turns out that Taryn has some secrets of her own to reveal.
The Lost Sisters is a companion e-novella to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince, by master writer Holly Black.
Preview before purchasing
I purchased this without previewing the reading. The voice actress is whiny and not pleasing to listen to. I feel it greatly took away from the writing and put Taryn in an even more victim/child/immature state than necessary. While I understand the book is a plea for forgiveness, it is difficult to feel compassion for the character when the voice is so off putting. It sounds like a child begging for a chocolate bar in a store when they already have one in their hand. I wish I’d purchased the written form instead.
Aside from that, Holly Black is my favorite fantasy novelist and I liked to see her adding this to the series. Whether is was necessary or not to know Taryn’s side of the story, I still appreciate the writing.
Not sure it was worth the cost
The Lost Sisters provides Terayn’s side of events. The story was interesting and somewhat entertaining but it really didn’t progress the series arch. The story does however show Terayn’s selfishness and greed. It will be interesting to see if & how the marriage between her and Locke goes.
