Just odd

DNF. There are a lot of good elements to this but for some reason I kept having to read about basketball. I honestly just couldn’t take it anymore, I kept trying to skip ahead but then there was just more basketball, like everything could be related back to playing basketball. BASKETBALL!!!

Amazingly written

The story of elk head woman was amazing. I am an outdoorsman and a hunter, and I found the story reminded me of my childhood, and being raised as a no waste Hunter. The strikes me as a reminder of the promise we make when we harvest beast to eat. That raw emotional connection unfold as well in the story

Loved it!!

Absolutely love the way this book was written. From the first character introduction to the last, it kept me guessing what was coming next. The use of “you” was so engaging that I couldn’t help but see from a first person view. Embracing the visuals and feelings. Saying all this without trying to give away too much. This is a must read.

So good.

I haven’t read a horror book since I was little reading Goosebumps and took a chance on this because the picture caught my eye. I’m so glad I did, this was excellent!

Subtle, magical . Read it.

The horror is not what you expect, it’s a circle of violence, of disorder that can be put right.

Utterly Chilling

Stephen Graham Jones has truly outdone himself with this book. I particularly enjoy books where the “bad guy” actually has kind of good motives. The writer’s style works so well with an audiobook, it’s almost like slam poetry in its rhythm. “Mongrels” is next on my list!

Amazing and Agonizing

This book is one of the most powerful and painful books I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I don’t really know how to write a review on how I feel without spoiling anything.

It’s astonishing, simply put.

Wanted to like it but...

It was more of a drama than a horror. A sort of study on Native American angst and victimhood. Artsy and mild are the only descriptions I have for the story and the reader’s journey.

Outstanding

Author does a wonderful job melding social commentary with horror. I was utterly engrossed by this novel
