Publisher Description
Narrated by award-winning 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley.
An inspiring, courageous memoir from the frontlines of history by one of the most trusted and respected voices in American journalism.
For decades, Scott Pelley has been reporting on news that matters. A former correspondent for 60 Minutes and anchor for CBS Evening News, he has been a fierce advocate for journalistic integrity and the importance of the freedom of the press in an era of disinformation. Now, for the first time, he shares a riveting dispatch from his award-winning career, chronicling globe-spanning moments that shaped our history and a portrait of the people who lived through them.
In moving, detailed prose, he:
• stands with firefighters at the collapsing World Trade Center on 9/11;
• advances with American troops in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq;
• reveals private moments with presidents (and would-be presidents) he's known for decades;
• offers a passionate defense of journalism and the necessity of a free press, and more.
"A monument to journalistic excellence" (Douglas Brinkley), Truth Worth Telling is a reminder of the values we can and must uphold, even in the most uncertain of times.
Customer Reviews
Incredible.
Mr. Pelley tells stories of those he encountered over the rich history of a career in journalism, and he narrates the audiobook himself. While I can imagine the length of some portions might irritate some, I found the book to be an amazing window into Mr. Pelley’s world and enjoyed his narration quite a bit.
Mr. Pelley is unique among people in the way he speaks the truth of his experiences. He comes across as someone who speaks from a deep deep well of hard-earned knowledge, but has also been humbled more than once and is willing to learn from such an experience. I especially enjoyed the intellectual nature of the way Mr. Pelley framed his stories. He constructs a framework of virtues and vices, and demonstrates how considerably well-read he is in the titans of literature and journalism that he quotes.
Mr. Pelley, I haven’t had this much to say about a book in a long long time. Thank you for sharing your experiences with the world - it was a pleasure to listen.
