Lotusfall’s Performance chapter fifteen

My review: I severely dislike Bramblestar (I think he’s a terrible leader, a bad mate and an okay father at best) and this book. There was nothing of interest to me in this one. I’ve read it once and have no desire to read it again…

Now for the chapter:

Her head was bowed as Lotusfall listened to Willowstar announce her betrayal to RiverClan from her solitary confinement. His words rang out loud and clear: until further proof that the new warrior was indeed training in the Dark Forest, she would be staying in the empty nursery.

The differing looks on her companions faces when Patchshade revealed her secret had hurt. Her parents looks of concern; Thorntail’s hurt expression; Slatewhisker’s unreadable wide eyes.

But worst of all was the look on Fallingkit’s face when the leader told him that no cat was allowed to speak to Lotusfall. That was the real pain.

She had made a promise—a good one that time—and now she had no choice but to break it.

Lotusfall was only brought small pieces of prey and allowed to leave to make dirt a few times a day, and by the time a quarter moon had passed, she had already given up her hopes of freedom.

She wondered what would happen to her. Would she be exiled from RiverClan, or would she be killed outright? And if she was… Surely, StarClan wouldn’t want her after everything she’s done? She sighed.

Everything had gone so wrong, and it was all because of her. She was just too weak.

Shortly before nightfall, pawsteps made Lotusfall glance up from her washing, and she saw Slatewhisker creeping forward.

“Lotusfall, are you awake?” She meowed quietly, her eyes glowing in the gathering darkness. “I can’t see you.”

“I’m here,” Lotusfall meowed, padding forward. She was shocked to see her here, of all cats. But she was concerned for her friend’s safety, too.

“You shouldn’t be here,” she told her. “What if Willowstar finds out?”

With a snort, Slatewhisker lashed her tail. “I don’t care what Willowstar thinks. We all desperately want to see you, but I’m the only one brave enough to actually do it.” She softened, and her eyes seemed to glisten. “I missed you.”

“I… I missed you too. And I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

“For lying to you—to every cat.” Lotusfall sighed. “But you deserve to know the whole truth now, about how bad of a cat I really am.”

“You’re not a bad cat,” Slatewhisker cut in angrily.

Lotusfall rolled her eyes. “You didn’t let me tell you what happened yet.”

Slatewhisker purred loud enough to where Lotusfall could hear her. “That doesn’t matter. I already know that you have a good heart.”

Feeling comforted by her words, Lotusfall told her everything, including Patchshade’s scheming. When she had finished, Slatewhisker was silent for a few moments.

“Wow,” she finally said. “That’s… a lot.” She looked away. “I’m the one who should be sorry: that’s my brother you’ve been dealing with for moons.”

“It’s fine,” Lotusfall assured her. “But you should go now, before you get caught.”

After saying their goodbyes, Slatewhisker left, and Lotusfall curled up to go to sleep.

But when Lotusfall woke up the next day and as she watched the dawn patrols—Thorntail was on that one, she had noticed—she realized that Patchshade was nowhere to be seen.

When Slatewhisker arrived a little while later, Lotusfall asked her where her brother was.

“I don’t know,” she said. Her eyes glazed over. “I saw him enter the leader’s den…”

Panic tore through Lotusfall. “What?!”

Slatewhisker was looking at the leader’s den, her tail betraying her agitation. Lotusfall started pacing back and forth in her nervousness.

“Wait, they’re both coming out now!”

“Go!” Lotusfall hissed to Slatewhisker, who started and began to hurry away.

Lotusfall watched as Patchshade and Willowstar both walked out of the camp together. What was the black and white tom planning on doing?

Was he hoping to somehow get rid of all of Willowstar’s lives at once?

When Slatewhisker returned, Lotusfall sprang to the sticks barring her escape. “Let me out!” She told her, bile rising in her throat. “I have to go stop Patchshade!”

Slatewhisker nodded and destroyed the sticks.

“Hey, what are you doing?” Curlsplash meowed, coming over. Lotusfall was already out the nursery, as Slatewhisker called after her.

“Make sure you give my brother a good, hard scratch for me!”

And then Lotusfall was gone. She slipped through the camp entrance and followed the scent of Willowstar and the cat who had caused her so much pain.

This would end today.

It’s a ok book

The book in general is good but the narrator is terrible

Cool book + Narrator!

The narrator isn’t that bad if you speed it up to 1.25x , but even at the normal speed, I don’t get why there are so many negative reviews about the narrator. It’s an average narrator, nothing special, but not bad either.
