A stay-at-home mom with a past.
A has-been rock star with a habit.
A reality TV producer with a debt.
Three disparate lives.
One deadly secret.
Twenty five years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were the best of friends, having forged a bond through the abuse and neglect they endured as residents of Savior House, a group home for parentless teens. When the home was shut down—after the disappearance of several kids—the three were split up.
Though the trauma of their childhood has never left them, each went on to live accomplished—if troubled—lives. They haven’t seen one another since they were teens but now are reunited for a single haunting reason: someone is trying to kill them.
To survive, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their shared past—a past that holds the secret to why someone wants them dead.
It’s a reunion none of them asked for . . . or wanted. But it may be the only way to save all their lives.
What Have We Done is both an edge-of-your-seat thriller and a gut-wrenching coming-of-age story. And it cements Alex Finlay as one of the new leading voices in thrillers today.
A Macmillan Audio production from Minotaur Books.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Alex Finlay’s action-packed thriller is a load of fun. Years ago, teenagers Jenna, Nico, and Donnie left behind their horrific foster home, Savior House, and headed in very different directions. Now, one of them’s a homemaker with a secret past, another’s a TV producer with a gambling habit, and the third is a washed-up rocker. One thing they all have in common: Someone’s trying to kill them. Exciting action sequences and unexpected moments of humor drive this fast-paced listen, while the trio of narrators add variety. We love Finlay’s three relatable heroes, who are trying to escape their traumatic childhoods while fighting to stay alive. The combination of excitement and wit in What Have We Done reminded us at times of Gregg Hurwitz’s Orphan X series.
This book has ahold of you right away and does not let go. It’s got a fast pace and numerous twists and turns and keeps you on the edge the whole time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to more from this author.
Firstly, the actors and their voices for the audiobook are COMPLETELY off… it’s more distracting than anything. So if you’re going to read, I would recommend the physical/digital copy to audiobook.
Secondly, this story line is just dull…. As I was driving, I would often find the birds more entertaining. I enjoy this author immensely, however this book was predictable and just overall completely missed the mark.
