Avid Reader - Stick it out, it's worth it!!
This is one of my favorite books! I was almost immediately drawn in by the creative world the author begins to build in the first chapter, but then was quickly off put by her strange word choices for normal every day things, to the point where I almost quit reading. However, since I hate quitting books in the middle without giving them a fair chance, I kept going. For a good while, I couldn't decide if the author was overly indulgent in her quirky word choices, or if she was brilliantly intentional... but eventually all of the strangeness began to feel integral to the world she was building, and almost endearing rather than uncomfortable. By about halfway through, I was hooked. I love the story and the narration, and I can't wait for the second installment!
What Did I Just Read?
UNPOPULAR OPINION: I can’t tell if Parker is a genius for making this all so complicated, or just horrible at telling a story in a coherent way. If your book needs a 22 page glossary that does little to clarify anything, and your reader can go from knowing what’s going on to completely confused with the turn of a page, you’ve done something VERY wrong. Seeing that it is incredibly unclear how it ended and why, I don’t feel compelled, in any way, to read the next book.
Absolutely beautiful
Not only is this book poetic and vivid, but the plot will have you gasping! Please do yourself the favor of fulling melting into this world & take it in. If it feels to challenge to grasp please listen to audio for a better experience!
