Publisher Description
One night—a single moment—cost me everything.
My body, broken beyond repair. The boy I’d thought was my forever. The life I’d always dreamt of.
Now, Holt’s back. And he’s no longer a boy, but a man with shadows in his eyes and demons haunting him.
He says he’s here to make things right. To get back a little bit of all we’ve lost. And he doesn’t show any signs of leaving the small town that has been my refuge.
As stolen moments turn to days, Holt’s around every corner. With his burning stare and lingering touches. Before long, my walls come crashing down, and I’m just hoping that taking this second chance isn’t as reckless as it feels.
But not everyone is happy that Holt has returned. As tragedy strikes again, I’m the one left in the crosshairs. And Holt might not be able to save me this time....

Wonderful Listen
Catherine Cowles writes amazing small-town romantic suspense and I'm in love with her new series! Holt and Wren have been apart for 10 long years after they endured a traumatic experience. One night changed so many lives and Holden left for what he thought was the right thing to do at that time. Holt is back in town and one thing that hasn't changed is their love for each other. When threats arise Holt doesn't hesitate to protect Wren and be there with her. Wren was very forgiving but I did like how they communicated and talked things through. I adored Holt's family and I'm already looking forward to the next book.
Narrated by Andi Arndt and Zachary Weber - they are both favorite narrators of mine and they did a great job with Holt and Wren. Their voices meshed well together and gave a very enjoyable listening experience.
Amazing Listen for Small Town Romance
Tragedy struck the small town of Cedar Ridge, uprooting the lives of Wren and Holt. Holt ran away, afraid of hurting the one he loved, while Wren stayed and continued living as a shell of herself. When Holt returns to Cedar Ridge after his father’s heart attack, the feelings between Wren and Holt arise, bringing all that pain and loss with them. The two both love each other but must face their own personal demons in order to finally be together once again.
I absolutely LOVED listening to this book, especially with the murderer-on-the-loose subplot that followed the tragedy that occurred years in the past. There was grief, longing, self-blame, and acceptance. The dual perspective brought the reader/listener close to both characters, wanting them to find their happily ever after once and for all.
If you’re looking for a small-town, second-chance romance with a suspenseful plot and forced proximity, this book is for you
Exceptional Story & Narration🎧 Riveting & Heartfelt!
Catherine Cowles pens another winning novel, an amazing second chance romantic suspense that not only captivates your attention but it tugs on your heartstrings too. This book takes off with a heart pounding prologue and I could not put the book down because nothing else around me mattered except what was going to happen next in the book. Holt Hartley and Wren Williams were each other’s everything, their friendship turned to love, true love and Wren was ready to take their love to another level. She planned a special night for him, but the night turned in to a tragic nightmare, one that changed not only their lives but others in the town of Cedar Ridge. Holt blamed himself for what happened to Wren and he could not deal with the aftermath or live with his guilt, so he fled and left it all behind. Ten years later, life brings him back to Cedar Ridge, and he realizes the errors of his ways and wants to set things right with Wren, but he broke her heart and there was nothing he could do or say to fix that, she has learned to live with it. Holt is determined to fix things and when the past comes back to haunt them and the people of Cedar Ridge, he finds a way back into her life. I love Catherine Cowles writing style and the characters and storylines she creates, and she has outdone herself with this book, from the heart pounding beginning to the mystery and suspense throughout that keeps you thinking and on your toes to the thrilling scenes that take you to the edge of your seat to the swoon worthy Holt and second chance romance, that has your heart pounding for a different reason. The world building and character development is phenomenal. Besides the wonderful lead characters, there are some fabulous secondary characters too. Thank you for another exceptional story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, the wonderfully talented Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber were the perfect cast to bring these characters and story to life. They had a complete understanding of who these characters were, took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Arndt nailed it as Wren, grasping every side of her personality, from her strength to her vulnerabilities, while Webber did the same for Holt. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance and had you feeling every single one. These entertaining storytellers are versatile voice artists and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another exceptional listen.
