Publisher Description
Considered lurid and shocking by mid-19th-century standards, Wuthering Heights was initially thought to be such a publishing risk that its author, Emily Brontë, was asked to pay some of the publication costs.
Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine’s father. After Mr Earnshaw’s death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine’s brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature.
Customer Reviews
Classic
It was okay. Classic of course.. was confused a little due to the voices/accents being similar but good all the same
Accurate
Fantastic narration and authentic Yorkshire accents. Listened several times over to get the full breadth of story.
Amazing language, passion, power struggles, dialogue, characters and relation between all of these things forms a curious and intriguing tale of untethered and undying love.. love it. Wish I could find Jane eyre read by this narrator. The negative reviews of this narrator like.. I’m sorry but if you don’t get it then you don’t really get the point of the story/you’re not going to get much out of the bronte sisters works ♥️ respectfully. If you DO get it-omg this is the best version..especially love Joseph lol
UNEVENTFUL AND PAINFUL
I’m sorry, but this book is about nothing. There is so much insignificant dialogue and every significant event is GLAZED over. My head was spinning and I was left exhausted. And not in a good way. Ridiculous that this is some kind of beloved book.
