Give it a chance
While it might seem like the book is going nowhere, things get better and speed up. Trust me. This book was really good as a set up for the rest of the series (which is to die for btw) and despite the slow pace I read it in a day and immediately moved onto the second one because I was so intrigued. Definitely worth it.

This was my first experience with this author and I loved it from the start. Meghan was exactly the right mix of teenage angst as she begins to discover her true nature and experiences her first vague stirrings of power. Looking forward to book 2 of the trilogy.
