A Charming Doorstep Baby
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I want to move to Charming, Texas. The town really lives up to it's name. I love the characters and visitors alike.
Maribel comes to Charming after quitting her job as a social worker. She believes herself a failure. She was offered another job with more money and less heartbreak but she has to really think about it. She rented a cottage on the beach. Next door to her is a hunky but grumpy cowboy-looking surfer. Unbeknownst to her her neighbor is a retired bull-rider. His last rodeo ended after 7 seconds and a career ending injury. Dean grew up in poverty. He saved all he could and invested it over the years. He is the one that may buy all of the beach cottages as an investment. They don't really get along at the beginning.
The next day, Maribel is interrupted by some very rude knocking at her door! Dean is mad as all get out. He found a baby on Maribel's front door! How could a woman forget her baby?! Only the baby isn't her's!!! Say WHAT?!?!?!?! Yep Maribel has been entrusted to care for the infant for a time until the mysterious mother returns. Maribel wants to turn the precious bundle over to CPS but Dean refuses and says he will take the infant to care for.
These two just conflict all the time in the beginning. But as time, the caring for the baby and an impending storm draws these two together. Can such two totally different people really come together? Will the mother return?
Well you will have to read this delightful story for yourself. While this is a part of a series, and some of the previous characters make appearances, you don't have to read them to understand and enjoy this story.
I adored getting a dual POV here. Getting to know them both really helped me to better understand and connect with them. I really hated to see this story end (the tragedy of quickly turning pages to see what happens next!!)
Falling for a baby has them falling for each other
Four and a half stars
Maribel Del Toro and Dean Hunter end up neighbors when they visit Charming… when Dean ends up with a darling baby on his doorstep, Maribel’s heart doesn’t allow her to remain uninvolved.
A CHARMING DOORSTEP BABY is the fifth in Heatherly Bell’s series set in Charming, Texas. While Maribel and Dean initially clash over what is best for the little one, they find common ground in making sure the cutie is well cared for, and discover they share much more. Readers also get to catch up with characters from the previous books, though this one stands alone well. A terrific addition to this series.
