Publisher Description
A motley group of thirty-somethings decide to enjoy an evening of drunken revelry under the branches of an historic tree. As the legends go, the 'Hanging Tree' has played host to the hanging of all manner of characters. From witches to cattle rustlers and runaway slaves. Two of the victims hung from this historic tree were left to rot in place and for them, the ancient branches became more than an impromptu gallows, they became A Hanging Grave. Oblivious to the supernatural dangers that lurk within the trunk of the ancient tree, Jason Godfrey, a self confessed drunk and womanizer, takes tree-hugging to an r-rated level and becomes the most unlikely and unexpected Anti-Hero imaginable.

A great start into a new series!
The Book;
Jason Godfrey is not what you would call a good person. In fact he is an arrogant, ignorant, selfish Drunk. A wild party with lots of booze ends up with him kissing a tree that was formerly used to hang witches and from that point on he is able to see and communicate with the restless dead. The ones that did not yet go on to the other side but stayed and are sometimes not even knowing why. So what does a selfish person like Jason do? He sells his ability to the dead by trying to help them find and solve what keeps them here. But after helping the dead and paying a big share in solving some murder cases he realizes that there is more than just looking afterf the monez and that he actually feels good helping. Even though his help often bings him into strange and sometimes deadly situations.
Brennan Barrett is a unique writer. Without any training or former education in writing he is still able to avoid all beginner traps and shows up with 5 books within one year.
The first four (which are a hilariously funny written stories about a regular guy who becomes the bodyguard of gods) were already really good but this start into a new world is even finer in context and story. Barrett influences you to hate the main character nearly right from the start only to slowly turn it around again.
Great book, Great writing, More please!
