Publisher Description
From the beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, the inspiration for HBO’s True Blood, comes “a gripping, twisty-turny, thrill ride of a read” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author) following a young gunslinging mercenary on deadly mission through the American Southwest.
In a fractured United States, a new world where magic is acknowledged but mistrusted, a young gunslinger named Lizbeth Rose takes a job offer from a pair of Russian wizards. Lizbeth Rose has a wildly fearsome reputation but these wizards are desperate. Searching the small border towns near Mexico, they’re trying to locate a low-level magic practitioner believed to be a direct descendant of Grigori Rasputin.
As the trio journey through an altered America—shattered into several countries after the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression—they’re set on by enemies. It’s clear that a powerful force does not want them to succeed in their mission. Lizbeth Rose has never failed a client, but this job may stretch her to her deadly limits.
“Immersive, involving, suspenseful and intriguing, with a main character you’ll love” (Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author), An Easy Death is a fast-paced thriller of the highest order.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Bullets fly and magic runs wild in the first book in Charlaine Harris’ Gunnie Rose series. The story is set in an alternate-history version of the 1930s, where the Great Depression rages but FDR has been assassinated and the Wild West is still in full effect. Against her better judgment, Harris’ heroine, Lizbeth Rose—a “gunnie,” or gunslinger—takes a job escorting two Russian wizards on a quest to save their czar. This sets off a bloody, fast-paced adventure that makes perfect use of both Western and fantasy tropes. Harris, the author of the long-running Sookie Stackhouse series, has given us another awesome heroine in Lizbeth Rose: She’s tough and damaged, and hell-bent on keeping her clients alive and her own body and soul intact.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In a bleak alternate history of what's left of a broken-up United States after Franklin Roosevelt is assassinated where poverty is rampant and magic is real but not widely accepted Harris (the Midnight, Texas series) tells the harrowing story of a young bodyguard, Lizbeth "Gunnie" Rose, whose job is to keep others alive. After her team and closest friends are killed in a mission gone wrong, Rose is forced to move on for the sake of survival, even if it means taking a gig protecting those she's spent her life hating: two Russian wizards, or grigoris, who have come to town looking for another wizard. She tells them he's dead, but doesn't mention that she killed him or why. It's not until she's too deep into the search for his brother that she finds out her own life is in danger: these wizards are more hunted than they realized, but she may be the one the hunters really want. In this fast-paced thriller fueled by magic and gunslinging, no one can be trusted. Harris's vividly detailed story will leave readers enthralled with the fascinating setting and a heroine who's sure to be a new fan favorite.

A good read
I’m curious to see what the rest of the series has to offer
Excellent Characters
It’s easy to fall in love with the characters! A lot of death but the twists and turns make it easy to turn the page.
So much fun
I have loved Charlaine Harris and Sookie Stackhouse forever but this was even better, it’s like a western crossed with alternative history and a magical adventure all rolled up into a hard boiled heroine. Really great!!!
