Will going back to the status quo be for the best?
Anyone but the Boss is the second book in the Anyone But You series, but could be read as a stand alone. Thomas is Alice’s boss, comes across as disapproving and arrogant. When his brother’s wedding brings them together in the best (or worst) or ways, plus add in a pint size terror, a demon cat, and blackmail, will they take a chance on love, or will going back to status quo be for the best?
Oh my goodness, this book was completely fun and fabulous, full of humor and angst. I laughed, I swooned, I cried, and then I cried some more from happiness! I loved this book! Thomas and Alice were grumpy to sunshine, rigid to go with the flow, and I was 100% for their dynamic, connection, and full on craziness. Alice had the biggest heart, was loyal to her friendships, and I loved that calamity just seemed to follow her wherever she went. She was used to rejection because of her past, but never stopped doing her absolute best. Thomas had a huge shadow of his father’s misdeeds looming over his head as he navigated stepping into his shoes, was not good with communication at all, but I loved his hidden sides that he slowly showed Alice and Mary. They had a connection full of ups and downs, some secrets, a lot of unknowns, and some fun passion, and I loved them! I liked the setting of the book, I loved all of the side characters, and I liked some of the drama that was present. I did not read the first book in the series, and while I had a few questions about what happened and what that meant for Thomas and his family, I never felt lost. I definitely want to go back and read it now, though, because these characters are amazing and I loved every second in this book! I’m looking forward to more!
Little Mary steals the show…
Nearly. Thomas’ wry humor, yes he has some, will have you grinning and his falling in love with Alice and Mary will make you tear up. It’s a good thing we get both POVs or this story would be heartbreaking. As it is I wanted to tell them to just “see” each other. In the meantime the slapstick hilarity of the Vegas trip and Mary’s introduction to adult words kept me laughing and turning the pages. I adored this billionaire RomCom.
