Publisher Description
A horrifying secret rises in the aftermath of an archangelic war in New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh’s deadly and beautiful Guild Hunter world. . . .
The Archangel of Death and the Archangel of Disease may be gone but their legacy of evil lives on—especially in Africa, where the shambling, rotting creatures called the reborn have gained a glimmer of vicious intelligence.
It is up to Titus, archangel of this vast continent, to stop the reborn from spreading across the world. Titus can’t do it alone, but of the surviving powerful angels and archangels, large numbers are wounded, while the rest are fighting a surge of murderous vampires.
There is no one left . . . but the Hummingbird. Old, powerful, her mind long a broken kaleidoscope. Now, she must stand at Titus’s side against a tide of death upon a discovery more chilling than any other. For the Archangel of Disease has left them one last terrible gift . . . .
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
The war may be over, but the nightmare lingers on in Singh's 13th Guild Hunter paranormal romance (following Archangel's War). In the aftermath of devastating worldwide conflict, Titus, the charismatic and commanding Archangel of Africa, struggles to rebuild. That difficult task is made harder by the fact that his lands are still infested with creatures called the reborn, undead beings that feast on flesh and spread infectious disease. Finding and destroying their nests is priority one, but Titus's resources are scarce and most other Archangels are preoccupied with postwar tasks of their own. So the Cadre send Titus an unlikely but invaluable helper in Lady Sharine, aka the Hummingbird, an artist known as much for her mental fragility as her work. Though Titus initially worries that the mere sound of his booming voice will terrify Sharine and send her swooning from the sky, Sharine turns out to be a happy warrior who flies solo, prefers pants and tunics to jewels and gowns, and throws herself into even the bloodiest work. Their unlikely alliance and perilous quest to eliminate the reborn keep the pages turning. Though series newcomers will struggle to get oriented, devoted readers will relish watching this charismatic and surprisingly playful partnership grow.

The fighting with the reborn was a thrilling page turner and in many ways reminded me of the Walking Dead. Sharine and Titus love was a mature relationship I don’t see written about often. For them duty and country came first. Very enjoyable read.
Love and absolutely adore , but....
This book is amazing it is giving us another view of an Archangel of the Cadre of ten and I just love it I hope will get more point of views from different characters..... I have been reading this series for 8 years now and it never gets old but 1 thing I have noticed is that there has been a reduction of the sexual interactions a the series progress form the first book Angel’s blood 🩸
I would love to see books about other members of the seven specifically Illium and Aodhan and we can have a book that spins forward and Elena and Raphael can have a baby I think this book will be my favorite of all time
The Hummingbird and Titus:
Absolutely stunning! I want much much more from Sharine and Titus. I’m eager to get back to Elena and Raphael but I definitely could read more from these too. I also need my Illium fix. I’m so looking forward to a book devoted to him and his love. The ending!! Oh I hope the next book drops soon, the waiting is horrendous!!
One of my favorites passages from the book is-
“So this is to be my penance. To see you glow and know I will never again be in your orbit.” Then, to her astonishment, he bent at the waist in a bow an archangel gave no one. It swayed nothing in her, but she accepted that the gesture was one with meaning.
