Moving beyond test scores and statistics, Dr. Shelia Willette Gilbert examines the broader forces that shape student achievement, including home life, school culture, community support, faith, the arts, extracurricular opportunities, safety, and preparation for life beyond graduation.

Drawing from decades of experience in education, counseling, ministry, and youth advocacy, Gilbert combines credible research with lived experience and student voices to consider what is working, what is not, and what must change.
