Publisher Description

The prequel story to the award-winning and bestselling video game franchise. How the majesty of Rapture, the shining city below the sea, became an instant dystopia

It's the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal has redefined American politics. Taxes are at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has brought a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business has many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom is diminishing…and many are desperate to take that freedom back.

Among them is a great dreamer, an immigrant who pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and admired men in the world. That man is Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserve better. And so he set out to create the impossible, a utopia free from government, censorship, and moral restrictions on science—where what you give is what you get. He created Rapture—the shining city below the sea.

But as we all know, this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be…and how it all ended.

A fantastic read!

This book really embodies the story of rapture, how an ambitious man made a city under the sea, and its citizens slowly decayed into madness. The amount of work this novel must have taken, I'm sure is staggering. The audio logs, places, people, everything matches exactly to the games, giving the reader a sense of completion. I remember traversing rapture for the first time, as the man "Jack" as I learned about my past, killed my father, and then destroyed Fontaine. Then as "Johnney Topside" I fought against Sophia Lamb to free my little sister Eleanor from her evil mother. Now the last puzzle pieces fall into place, as I learned how the great citizens of Rapture, ventured there, lived there, and then slowly destroyed themselves under Andrew Ryan's watchful eye, powerless to his own rules. One day I hope to venture there again, perhaps in the golden days of rapture, or perhaps during its darkest days. Rapture is to me, like Adam is to a splicer, and I will return again.

Thanks for the great read!

Excellent read

You have to be a fan of the game to truly appreciate the story, and if you are, this will be a great read. BioShock has such a great storyline. Would love to see more novels, and can't wait to play infinite in 2012.
