Boots

Murkin the piano-tuner, Semyon the attendant, boots that belong to Tuesday’s actor, two lefts full of holes. Chekhov’s Boots on the page: a hotel farce, an appointment with Madame Shevelitsyn, pride versus the clock. Sovereign ebook. Nothing epic, everything exact. The wrong pair as destiny. Russian comic short fiction, a landing, a man who still has to walk. Page voice, the petty sublime. A story you can finish between stations, and still see the holes.
