New York Times Bestseller
“In Brida, my third novel, which I wrote just after The Alchemist, I tell the story of a young woman who dives into sorcery and her experiences with different magical traditions. I explore many themes that are dear to me, such as the Great Mother, pagan religions, and the perceptions of love.”
-- Paulo Coelho
This is the spellbinding tale of Brida, a beautiful young Irish woman, and her quest for knowledge. On her journey, she meets a wise man who teaches her about overcoming her fears, and a woman who teaches her ancient rituals. They see in her a gift, but must let Brida make her own voyage of discovery.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Growth, curiosity, and a dash of sorcery fill the pages of this bewitching tale from Brazilian novelist Paulo Coelho, author of the global bestseller The Alchemist. Brida is a young Irish woman who sets out to find her place in the world. When she travels into a forest near her village, she finds a pair of unexpected mentors: a sage witch and a wise recluse. The two aren’t exactly your typical life coaches, but they both recognize in Brida a gift—and with mystical rituals and ethereal guidance, they help the inexperienced girl overcome her fears and discover her true power. Coelho’s spellbinding tale of magical realism is packed full of important lessons about discovering and using your own special talents and learning to accept and even love your mental and physical imperfections. Brida is an enthralling story about finding your passion and purpose that acknowledges that the beginning of any spiritual journey can be ugly and painful.

I love this author and this book is beautiful. A woman on a journey, and her destiny changes the lives of those around her. A truly human story. Very good.
Will want to read again
Definitely an eye opener read. Honestly Coelho does it again. If you ever want to have your eyes opened to the universe around you, then read any Coelho book you will not be disappointed. With Brida I felt like I was reading about myself. She reminded me so much of myself to the point where I felt like he knew me and wrote this book about me if I was an Irish woman in the 80s. Definitely a good read, just be prepared to question the world around you as you know it.
