From # 1 New York Times bestselling author Lauren Kate comes an enemies-to-lovers romance about an editor, her bestselling author, and one life-changing secret.
What she doesn't know about love could fill a book.
With a successful career as a romance editor, and an engagement to a man who checks off all ninety-nine boxes on her carefully curated list, Lanie's more than good. She's killing it. Then she’s given the opportunity of a lifetime: to work with world-renowned author and her biggest inspiration in love and life—the Noa Callaway. All Lanie has to do is cure Noa's writer's block and she'll get the promotion she's always dreamed of. Simple, right?
But there's a reason no one has ever seen or spoken to the mysterious Noa Calloway. And that reason will rock Lanie’s world. It will call into question everything she thought she knew. When she finally tosses her ninety-nine expectations to the wind, Lanie may just discover that love By Any Other Name can still be as sweet.
Kate (The Orphan's Song) delivers a delightful rom-com that begs to be devoured in one sitting. Lanie Bloom comes from a family of doctors and always intended to follow in their footsteps until she fell in love with romance novels in college. Lanie ditched pre-med to pursue a career in New York City publishing, eventually becoming the editor of one of romance's biggest names, Noa Callaway. Though she's never met the mysterious author in person, they've worked together via email for years, and Lanie's always been a fan, even creating a list of aspirational qualities for her perfect partner based on one of Noa's first books. When Noa admits to writer's block, Lanie's job rides on getting the next bestseller produced, and she'll stop at nothing to generate inspiration leading to their first IRL meeting and a reveal that shakes Lanie to her core. Most readers won't be surprised to discover the reason Noa is so reclusive, but this doesn't take away from enjoying the slow burning central relationship. Kate surrounds both Noa and Lanie with well-drawn friends and family who add welcome backstory and create a sense that these are two people with full lives outside of each other meeting in the middle. The result is both smart and adorable.)
Don’t Judge a Book By The Cover
In all my years reviewing books, this specific review is directed at the PUBLISHER, but I’ll share it with readers. By Any Other Name is written by Lauren Kate and has a few “meet-cute” rom-com moments. However, I truly believe that this is a TRUE ROMANCE novel with heartfelt love, not lusty rolls in the sack (not in the book), no bodice-ripping, and featuring real-life love. The book gets FIVE STARS, and the COVER gets ONE STAR. The cover does not go with this book AT ALL, and I beg Penguin Publishing Group to change it. Where are the tulips, the bridge, and the senior couple sitting on their blanket in the background? There are so many good options to make this cover reflect the written word. @penguinrandomhouse, you have a fantastic story, but a dumb cover that misleads the reader into thinking it’s has little depth and a lot of silliness. Ms. Kate has done a fantastic job, and I love EVERY character in the story, especially Lanie’s grandmother with her hilarious advice. I would like to see more books written with a “love” factor as the Lanie and Noah romance takes a sweet wind-up to the satisfying conclusion. I CHEERED at the ending. I know this isn’t Wuthering Heights, but I don’t think you have to dumb it down for today’s modern Romance reader. To my fellow readers, this book comes out in March 2022, and I will be reminding you regularly to buy this book. To the publisher, I’m on my knees begging you to change that awful book cover. #IMHO #truelove #notcheesy #notsteamy #lovewithfeelings #lovewithmeaning @laurenkatebooks #byanyothername @penguinrandomhouse #penguinpublishinggroup @putnambooks #gpputnamssons
