NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The second novel in Anne Rice's hugely ambitious, moving, and masterful portrayal of the life of Christ, following Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt.
It’s a winter of no rain, endless dust, and talk of trouble in Judea. All who know and love Jesus find themselves waiting for some sign of the path he will eventually take. After his baptism, he is at last ready to confront his destiny. At the wedding at Cana, he takes water and transforms it into red wine. Thus, he’s recognized as the anointed one and called by God the Father to begin a ministry that will transform an unsuspecting world.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
In the New Testament, the miracle at the wedding at Cana\x97where Jesus turned water into wine\x97marks the commencement of his tumultuous three-year ministry. In Rice's beautifully observed novel, a sequel to 2005's Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, however, the wedding miracle is in fact the culmination of an intimate family saga of love, sorrow and misunderstanding. As the novel opens, Yeshua (Jesus) struggles with a sense of restlessness of purpose and a deep love for a comely kinswoman. Waves of isolation sweep over him as he comes to understand that serving the Lord's will takes precedence over the desires of his own heart. Whereas the first novel in this series hewed so closely to Scripture and to the author's meticulous research as to be somewhat arid as fiction, this book, imagining the \x93lost\x94 young adulthood of Jesus, offers wise and haunting speculation where the Bible is silent. And the final chapters, which pick up the story with the New Testament's accounts of Jesus' baptism, temptation and early miracles, manage to be soulfully insightful even while faithfully tracking the Gospels. Rice undertakes a delicate balance: if it is possible to create a character that is simultaneously fully human and fully divine, as ancient Christian creeds assert, then Rice succeeds.

Road to Cana & out of Egypy
Having read each of these books five or six times one can only conclude that the books were deeply enjoyed. I feel the series should be a trilogy which culmunnates in Christs death. I know that believers everywhere are aware on the actual ending but I personally want to read Anne Rices descriptive version. Ms Rice brings the bible alive in a way no other writer does. When reading her two books I can feel the dry air, smell the food cooking on the braziers, I feel like I can just walk into those times and get joyfully lost. I feel like I know Joseph, James, Yeshua, The boy John, Elizabeth I don,t want to loose my friends and so I beseech you, Anne, please finish this series. thank you.
Enlightening
Never in my 62 years as a Catholic, have I thought about Jesus as a human. Anne’s books have enlighten me to see beyond Jesus as God.
