Publisher Description

Coding the Common Core - An innovative educator’s guide for seamlessly integrating  content, literacy, and math standards with coding language.

As a 5th grade teacher it is essential that I am challenging my students on a daily basis. Students in today’s society are expected to be using various thinking skills, mastering academic content, solving complex problems, and much more. Many of the career fields that today’s students will enter are just forming or do not even exist yet. Regardless of a student’s career choice, he or she must be able to efficiently use technology. Students who can create their own technology and understand programming languages are bound to be twice as successful. Unfortunately teachers and students do not have the time to teach computer programming and coding in isolation. Planning integrated lessons however, that teach students coding fundamentals AND help assess curriculum/ content standards is very much possible. I like to refer to this integration process as Coding the Common Core.
