Complete Adventure Romance Western of Rex Beach

An American novelist, playwright.  His second novel The Spoilers (1906) was based on a true story of corrupt government officials stealing gold mines from prospectors, which he witnessed while he was prospecting in Nome, Alaska. The Spoilers became one of the best selling novels of 1906.

After success in literature, many of his works were adapted into successful films; The Spoilers became a stage play, then was remade into movies five times from 1914 to 1955, with Gary Cooper and John Wayne each playing "Roy Glennister" in 1930 and 1942, respectively.

The Silver Horde was twice made into a movie, as a silent film in 1920 starring Myrtle Stedman, Curtis Cooksey and Betty Blythe and directed by Frank Lloyd; and a talkie version The Silver Horde (1930) that starred Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, and Evelyn Brent and was directed by George Archainbaud.

Going Some-

Galloping, scintillating, sparkling fun from beginning to end--and withal clean and sweet as a girl's fresh laughter. Trouble arises from the fact that the hero has led his friends to believe he is an athlete, when, as a matter of fact, he never did anything more athletic than lead the cheering for others. If you mind slang, keep away!

The Winds of Chance (1918)-

This novel of Alaska thrills and vibratos with the true American spirit--the spirit that has made the A. E. K. what it is. Here is Beach's Alaska at its best--the swirling human tide sweeping on through Chilikoot Pass--the epic days that were lived by the thousands at While Horse--the great human side of the gold rush. And here is 'Poleon Doret again, the singing, sunny, cleanhearted 'Poleon! You met him in "The Barrier" perhaps. Humor? Beach has not forgotten it.

The Iron Trail (1913)

Story of Alaska in which the government policy as regards the coal fields is strongly criticized. The interest centers about an irresistible Irishman who is bound to conquer the wilderness of glacier and river and gorge with his railroad and bridges. He does it, of course, and in the process also conquers the bright girl reporter who has been sent by her paper to "write him up."

Heart of the Sunset (1915)

Rex Beach's foot is on his native heath again in his new novel. Real incidents of the Mexican-Texas border are transmuted into colorful romance. And, as in other books, neither danger nor death can banish the genuine Beach humor.

The Barrier (1908)

While the plot of The Barrier approaches the melodrama, and the sensitive reader is shocked by the brutal use of the English language, the vividness of the descriptions carries him bodily into the wilds of Alaska, and when the book is closed he feels as if he himself had shot roaring rapids, had been tortured by mosquitoes, and had looked down the threatening barrel of a Colt's .44. The story is of an Arctic enchantress, who captivates Lieutenant Burrell of the United States Army.

The Silver Horde (1909), is set in Kalvik, a fictionalized community in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and tells the story of a down on his luck gold miner who discovers a greater wealth in Alaska's run of salmon (silver horde) and decides to open a cannery.
