Cliff hang..e....r
I’m not sure I like this idea of a good, but relatively short book building up to a climax and then telling you it’s in the next book. Which still isn’t out almost 2 years later as of Jan 2018. It’s a unfinished story at this point. Sad.. :-(
Got a real kick out of author’s merging of popular fast food franchises and department stores. We all know that’s going to probably happen. His names for these mega-franchise are both expected and depressing at the same time.
Some of my issues with the first book - the “future-izing” of technology, politics and the urban landscape have been addressed a little bit here. Still, in the 1960’s the future held moon bases and asteroid mining. And it wasn’t till the mid 1990s that the world even really knew about the internet. Now 30 years later no one can even think about being unplugged. In 50 years or so what’s going to be passed aside, and what’s going to be the new “in” thing? Self driving cars and drone fights are so 2020’s.. so while obviously this author has his hand firmly placed on heartbeat of the future, I still think he hasn’t gone far enough with it.
Real good science fiction builds a world, drops people in it, stirs it up a bit, and then serves what boils out of it.
Hurry up, finish the next book. I’m hungry
