Like its central character, Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel is a bit of a lovable misfit: a rare instance of a hit Broadway musical being adapted for the page. If you haven’t seen the show, it’s the story of how a teen’s viral lie winds up revealing large, prickly truths to the people involved in the falsehood. With its themes of grief and loneliness, Evan Hansen’s journey is perfectly suited to the angstiness of YA lit. “ ‘Cause all that it takes,” as the musical’s trademark song goes, “is a little reinvention.”

It’s such a good story and book. It does swear a bit though just so you know. If you read this you HAVE to listen to the music and see the musical.

In all seriousness, I definitely think you should read this book. I also definitely recommend listening to the music and looking into the musical first if you haven’t already. I could write so much more but I will end it here.
