Another splendid addition to the series

“Someone—maybe Bernadette, maybe Ezra’s grandmother— had told her she had this gift for a reason. That she was a finder of truth. She hoped she would know what to do with the truth she found.”

Mae Martin is at a crossroads. She had decided after helping a friend and almost losing that friend, that she could, and would, claim her profession and not just help someone because she was their friend (read Ghost Sickness, Mae Martin 5). In that way, she could take care of herself. However, then there was Jamie, her boyfriend, who it seemed at times, to have little or no boundaries and a bit of a haphazard way of healing others, but not enough understanding to be aware how he “leaked” around his own issues. Heading out on a music tour, Jamie reconnects with Mae’s ex husband and his new wife and ends up in a convoluted situation where Brook and Stream, Mae’s stepchildren, stow away in his van headed back west after the tour. Emotions run rampant until everyone returns to Truth or Consequences where Jamie has been hired to be part of a healing workshop with a woman and her partner who might not be what they claim to be. Will everyone be able to get through this unscathed? You’ll just have to read it and find out.

I love Amber Foxx’ Mae Martin books. I did have to look up the concept of “death omens”, which I found out are extremely common throughout cultures as we all need to know we will actually wake up tomorrow. And as each character begins wading through their own situations, they begin to understand that in a whole new way. How they intergrate that into their psyche is the stuff this book is about wrapped in a package of greed, and need, and lies, and misunderstandings. Another wonderful story. Highly recommended 5/5
