Can you see the forest for the trees?
‘Truth doesn’t want you to stop it. It wants you to stir it up.”
Mae Martin is still trying to settle in with her lover Jamie as her friends are dealing with the upcoming demise of one of the known painters in the area. Florencia’s work is well known and her eccentricities are even better known. Helping Niall begin to pack up Flo’s life, she is struck by how she has banished her family from her life, adamantly forbidding them near her or anything else of hers.
Meanwhile, Mae begins a convoluted psychic whodunnit that could set Jamie’s friends against both him and her. The bits and pieces make no sense to her and she needs to keep herself present to put all the pieces together. All this while she tries to keep herself from “fixing” Jamie and her, and understanding why she reacts as she does at times with and without him.
Told in masterful Foxx style, this fifth book in the series gives us peeks into the backstory of both Jamie and Mae, given them both places to decompress and teachers to learn more about their gifts. Question is, can they get out of their own way to learn it. Highly recommended 5/5
