Primarian Mates, Book 4, by Maddie Taylor
When Lana Hartman signed on for a three-year space mission on the Odyssey, her only thought was how to save a dying Earth. Being captured and caged by a bunch of loincloth-wearing savages was nowhere on the agenda. Meeting Trask, the Supreme General of the Primarians, is a double-edged sword. He may be a barbarian, can't understand a single word she says, but there's a red-hot attraction between them that can't be denied. As she soon learns, the Primarians are anything but savages. Their technology far outstrips that of Earth. And they're looking for mates. That humans turn out to be physical matches on a biocellular level is a miracle...for the Primarians. Primarian females were rendered infertile over 20 years ago, and their race is facing extinction. But are the captured eight females enough to repopulate all of Primaria? The Primarians may be technologically light years ahead of Earth, but their basic nature harkens back to the Victorian era. Dominant, patriarchal, and controlling in the extreme, Lana and the others rebel from the start. But is any human female a match for the alien males? Hardly likely when the Primarians outweigh and outmatch every one of them. When the Odyssey itself is captured, bringing another 300 females to Primaria, Lana despairs. But she slowly comes to accept that life on Primaria is her only future. She also soon realizes Trask means much more to her than just the best sex of her life. Then, out of the blue, she's hit with the most devastating news possible. She loves Trask, and, for his sake, she has to leave. When the Odyssey leaves for Earth, she escapes. Can this truly be the end for Trask and Lana? Unknown to the Primarians and humans alike, there are plots, agendas, and machinations set to destroy everyone and everything. But who would want this? And why is Lana is the focus? When disaster after disaster strikes, Lana's in the wrong places at every turn. With her life at stake, and the burgeoning pact between Earth and Primaria at risk, can anything save her? As she races against time to find the culprit, she has just one chance. But can she take it? To do so would mean utter destruction, and not just for her. Only one thing is clear. If she can't find the answers, Primaria, Earth, and every hope for the future is gone!
This story blew me away. It's not a short book, but it's very well worth the time to read. Maddie Taylor has outdone herself with this installment of the Primarian Mates. Lana's a paradox. Independence was forced on her by her life on Earth. She's a scientist of the highest caliber and self-reliant in every sense of the word. That she finds herself a Primarian captive, mated to an arrogant, overbearing, dominant Primarian male is something she should hate. Yet, she's fascinated, inexplicably drawn to Trask. She fights him tooth-and-nail from day one yet she can't help but love him. She's desolate, heartbroken, when she learns the truth. Yet she still can't let go. Trask is absolutely captivating. Yes, he's all the things Lana should hate. His domineering personality, intolerance of any defiance, and readiness to punish Lana for the least infraction should make you hate him. But he's so much more than just a primitive, old-fashioned brute with a one-track mind. His passion knows no bounds, and not just in the bedroom. He's devoted to his family, his people, and his planet. His dedication to Lana, his family, his Princep, his world, are astounding. I was riveted from the moment I started reading. In my opinion, Defying the General is the best book yet in this series. Ms. Taylor has outdone herself. This book deserves nothing less than five stars! Thank you, Ms. Taylor, for writing such a compelling story. This book will stay with me for some time to come!
A final note. This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, this may not be the book for you. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and Amazon. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to a book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
When fate brings Lana back to Trask, can he keep her safe while they fall in love?
Defying the General is the fourth book in the Primarian Mates series. Lana was captured and taken as a mate to a Primarian Warrior, General Trask. While she often thinks back on her mission to help fellow humans find a new place to live, she makes the best of her situation, even falling in love with Trask - until she finds out news that effects not only her future, but Trask’s as well! Breaking her bond and forging a new life, fate brings Lana back to Trask, but can he keep her safe as she falls into trouble? Is it possible to gain his trust back and find a happy future when he finds out why she ran?
Oh my gosh, this book sucked me in right away and I never wanted to finish it! I fell so hard to Lana and Trask’s story, wanting to cry and laugh and I could only hope for such a happy ending for them. Ms. Taylor did a phenomenal job of creating this world, creating a story that made you wish you were living it with the characters. She also did a fabulous job making this book into a stand-alone and any reader can pick it up and understand past events, while still wanting to read those books to find out the full details of what happened! Lana tried to sacrifice so much, all in the name of love, while Trask was so strong and sure, except when it came to Lana. I loved their joys, their pains, and most of all, I loved reading about their love!
