Couldn’t put it down
I read an advance reader copy of this novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this new installment to the Lancers series - it keeps getting better and better. As always, Adams provides crisp action in a sharply written story centering on a team of freelance mercenaries - “Lancers”. They’re not perfect, either as individuals or as a team - they’re flawed, believable, people…even if one’s a standard human, one’s a genetically modified human, another is an android, and the last is a synthetic.
This particular installment reads like a Cyberpunk/Noir Mystery meets Casino Royal, with our lancer team hired by the Intelligence Bureau to track down the reclusive trillionaire responsible for causing the war that killed millions. A string of bad luck drags what had looked like a quick mission out, pushing the Lancers until they’re at the end of their ropes. Their target just doesn’t make mistakes, so only luck can save them.
This one kept me up at nights - I couldn’t put it down.
