Favorite Series
I loved this continuation in my favorite series. The Downfall of Cornwall was based around Anwen, daughter of Idris and Rhiannon (my favorite couple so far as I feel they had the biggest hurdles to overcome) and Sagramore, a Briton in heart, but not by birth. Anwen is told by her parents she must find a husband while visiting Camelot for King Mark’s marriage to the Irish princess Iseult. Anwen finds Sagramore to be a safe choice to spend her time with, knowing Idris would never approve of him since his nationality and lack of a British title makes him unsuitable. But Anwen doesn’t anticipate just how much she will come to enjoy Sagramore’s company. And while Anwen and Sagramore are busy trying not to fall in love various wheels are set in motion all around them- two bastard sons acknowledged, one discovered love affair, a thwarted ambush, one war avoided, true love doomed from the start and the evil machinations of a bitter exiled witch.
Another Great Aurthurian Story
Downfall of Cornwall is the 8th book in this interesting retelling of the Arthurian legends. This time we get to meet Anwen and Sagramore. This is basically a love story featuring these two characters, but there is so much more going on all around them. There is betrayal, love, plotting, drunkenness, and that nasty Morgan even makes an appearance. My favorite character in this story is Sagramore: he is an honorable yet troubled man who wants to be better. This story is part of this grand multi book retelling and I cannot wait for more.
