Compared to Reus's previous Deadly Ops novels, the fourth (after Shattered Duty) is less gripping, but there's still plenty of groping. When DEA Deputy Director and Deadly Ops Team boss Max Southers is murdered, Tucker Pankov fears his fellow Deadly Ops team members are in danger. His suspicions are confirmed when hit men simultaneously attempt to assassinate them all. Next somebody hacks into DEA personnel files, links the team to a terrorist group, and revokes their top security clearance. It's obvious this is an inside job, so they're forced to "go rogue" to ID the mastermind, avenge Southers's death, and clear their names. The action is pretty tame and doesn't improve when it takes all four Deadly Ops fighters to kidnap NSA analyst Karen Stafford. She's a necessary link to Wesley Burkhart, the only man they're certain is incorruptible. Of course circumstances force Tucker and Karen to spend enough quality time alone together to develop feelings for one another. Maybe cybercrimes take some of the action out of action thrillers, or maybe Reus just felt like coasting through this one.

Great Addition to the Deadly Ops Series
This is book four in the Deadly Ops series by Katie Reus. Each book can be read as a stand-alone but there are some characters that are recurring in each book. To get a better understanding of the characters and how they operate and interact, I would recommend reading all the books in the series but it is not necessary. This series is generally about a secret group of men and women attached to the NSA, doing covert government work. This book, however, takes a side turn and directly relates to a character that is in an under-cover little known, DEA black ops operative named Tucker Pankov.
Tucker and his comrades are targeted by a high level traitor in the DEA. When his boss is murdered, Pankov and his team are being set up to take the fall for not only the murder but also other terrorist acts. Not knowing who to trust Pankov knows he needs to reach Wesley Burkhart, a Director in the NSA and recurring character in the Deadly Ops books, to help. The only problem is getting to him. To do this Tucker and his team kidnap, Karen Stafford, an NSA analyst who works closely with Burkhart. On the run and with danger closing in fast Tucker and his team relate their story to Karen. Karen being in the position that she is trusts her instincts and realizes that Tucker and his team are being set up. Things really begin to heat up with the real villains realizing that Tucker and his team are still alive and knowing that they are loose ends that need to be handled.
Even though you know who the bad guys are the suspense was off the hook in this book. You didn’t know who, where or how they were going to strike next. The attraction between Tucker and Karen was off the charts. Acting on their passion in a variety of tense situations added to the over-all feel of the book.
I would recommend this book for not only it’s suspense but also the great way the characters interact with each other. I was gifted a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review. However, I also purchased a copy of the book because it was that good.
