Publisher Description

Following the break-up of the Soviet bloc, the newly independent countries faced enormous challenges. Reforming education practices was identified as crucial to moving from a socialist society to a more open one. The Step by Step program, an education reform program funded by the Soros Foundations Network, played a key role in these efforts. To find out more about education reform in former Soviet countries, long-time ACEI member Joan Moyer interviewed Master Teacher Trainers from Slovenia and Ukraine who work for the Step by Step program. The interviews were conducted in Lund, Sweden, at the World Association for Case Method Research and Case Method Application conference in 2001. In separate interviews, these educators shared their thoughts about their participation in educating preschool/primary children in a Step by Step program. As part of the Higher Education Initiative, the interviewees were involved in preparing teacher educators, preservice teachers, and inservice teachers for new roles and responsibilities.
