Returning from Touch the Dark and Claimed by Shadow, Cassie Palmer has finally become Pythia, the supernatural community's all-knowing oracle. She's struggling with her new powers (such as shifting back and forth through time) and is stuck between good and evil factions of the paranormal community. Her main concern, though, is to figure out how to reverse a pesky spell that threatens her independence: the geis, once placed on her for protection, is now trying to bind her to the handsome master vampire, Mircea, with results detrimental to them both. The only solution is to find the fabled book that has the counterspell find it in space and in time. Cassie in her struggles between her passionate need for independence, her burgeoning feelings for Mircea and her conflicts with her new role as Pythia is a well-rounded character, and the intensity and complexity of the plot puts her through her paces physically, emotionally and psychically.

This is where the addiction starts!
Embrace the Night is non-stop action start to finish. In a desperate attempt to break the geis binding Cassie to Mircea and driving them both mad, she must find the Codex Merlini. Too bad everybody else wants it too...and Cassie dead. And if that isn’t enough to deal with, she also has to protect a group of runaway kids and find out why a djinn was murdered.
Cassie is still learning what it means to be Pythia, chief seer and protector of the timeline, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to save everyone. Thankfully she has learned that being able to shift time will help her in that goal and in defeating her many enemies.
Cassie really comes into her own in this book and we learn quite a bit about the Silver Circle and what is driving them. We also learn some startling facts that put the bigger picture story arc into motion. And we get to meet some fabulous characters, Augustine and Rosier. Augustine is an amazing clothing designer with magical defenses sewn right in. I would love to wear any of his creations! Rosier...well I’ll let you draw your own conclusions about him.
In Embrace the Night we get to see another side of the battle at Dante’s from Touch the Dark. One of the most fantastic things about this series is Ms Chance’s ability to manipulate the timeline and I love getting different perspectives of the same scene...from the same person. No other series I’ve read can even come close to this!
I can not recommend this book highly enough. If you’ve tried the first two books of the series please keep going. You will not be disappointed by EtN. No, you’ll be addicted to this world and picking up the next book right away. Just like I’ll be doing :)
This series is great!
This is one of my most favorite series ever! It is FANTASTIC!
Eventful read
I liked Embrace the Night, but all of the half truths, time travel, death threats, the sisters, fights, the children, the arrest, the ouroboros....all together it was a bit too much. I really liked the opening. scene in the Paris catacombs but after that everything just seemed as if the author threw together ideas and stirred the pot leaving readers wondering where this story would go next or how it would all tie back together. For the most part open threads were closed.
