But thanks to a blizzard, what should have been a quick plane ride turns into an antagonistic overnight misadventure that stirs up old feelings even as Tom prepares to propose to his girlfriend on Christmas Eve.
A delightful meet-cute between The Proposal and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Emergency Contact is perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Layne (Passion on Park Avenue) teams up with her husband, debut author LeDonne, for this sparkling second-chance romance. Manhattan attorney Katherine Tate's father died on Christmas nine years ago, and ever since, she's been the consummate Grinch—one of many differences between her and her ex-husband, Tom Walsh. When a car accident lands Katherine in the hospital shortly before Christmas, she's distressed to realize she never changed her emergency contact information—but even though she and Tom haven't spoken in years, he still shows up. The doctor discharges Katherine but warns against leaving her alone, so Tom invites her to spend Christmas in Chicago with his family, never mind how this complicates his plans to propose to his new girlfriend on Christmas Eve. A blizzard turns their cross-country trek into a hilarious series of misadventures. Along the way, Tom realizes that he still has a soft spot for "the most stubborn, proud, and ridiculous person" he knows, and Katherine discovers she can still read Tom's moods like a book. The authors make the most of the alternating perspectives to convincingly chronicle Katherine and Tom's reawakening love. Supporting characters, especially trucker Gorby, who comes through for Katherine and Tom in a pinch, add to the fun. This is a gem.

Feel good holiday second chance
This second chance holiday romance was sweet, complicated, witty, & sucked me in at the very beginning.
Katherine’s lonely life has put her in a precarious situation when she needs supervision after a concussion. Enter…stage hospital room…her ex-husband & apparently still her emergency contact, Tom.
These two have magically managed to not run into each other in the same city since their divorce, but I guess New York IS a big city. But this chance reunion puts them in each other’s presence for a few days. Queue the witty banter, the unfortunate circumstances, the issue of one disaster after another, & you have the recipe for a perfect second chance reunion.
As these two navigate their current situation, they slowly find what made them each fall in love with the other…and they both see what made them go oh so wrong.
I loved the humanity in this book. Tom’s good samaritan/white knight personality and Kat’s sacrificial heart to do anything to ensure Tom’s happiness. But in the end, their true happiness was well founded in each other.
Sometimes, we get it right the first time.
Audiobook Review:
Tim Paige & Brianna Cohen delivered a stellar performance. Both pulled me into the story & had me rooting for both sides the entire way.
Should be a movie
The best Lauren Layne book I’ve ever read!
PAGE TURNER!!
I finished this book in two days, and that’s only because I had to force myself to put it down to go to sleep — WAY past my bed time, might I add.
Christmas happens to be my favorite holiday, so it was easy to get lost in the story. There were so many twists and turns throughout this novel, and each of them had me on my toes. The ending was as expected, but in a good way.
I would love to watch this as a Christmas Hallmark movie!
