Sadie wasn't looking for love until it landed on her doorstep.
After getting passed over for an overdue—and much-needed—promotion, Sadie Green is in desperate need of three things: a stiff drink, a new place to live, and a one-night stand. But when an accidental mix-up lands her on the doorstep of Jack Thomas's gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone, it's too bad Sadie is more attracted to the impressive real estate than she is to the man himself.
Jack, still grieving the unexpected death of his parents, has learned to find comfort in video games and movie marathons instead of friends. So while he doesn’t know just what to make of the vivaciously verbose Sadie, he’s willing to offer her his spare bedroom while she gets back on her feet. And with the rent unbeatably low, Sadie can finally pursue her floristry side hustle full-time. The two are polar opposites, but as Sadie’s presence begins to turn the brownstone into a home, they both start to realize they may have just made the deal of a lifetime.
Debut author Ballard shines in this quirky, heartwarming contemporary romance. After financial analyst Sadie Green gets passed over for a well-deserved promotion, her profane outburst earns her a pink slip. While drunkenly commiserating with her best friends, she mistakes a roommate-finding app for a dating app and ends up matched with the reclusive Jack Thomas. They clear up the miscommunication fairly quickly and, after seeing Jack's expansive Brooklyn brownstone—and learning how little in rent he's asking—Sadie moves in and decides to chase her longtime dream of becoming a florist. At first, she sees Jack as just her kind but nerdy roommate, but when their chemistry sparks, it's explosive. Then Sadie discovers that Jack has been keeping a (relatively mild) secret about his past, and their future seems anything but assured. Ballard's snappy prose and unconventional couple charm, and she gets some good chuckles out of skewering the New York City real estate market. Meanwhile, stellar supporting characters (especially Sadie's besties Gemma, Nick, and Harley) provide a solid underpinning to this enjoyable tale. This is a treat.
Will read again!
One of the best books in this genre I’ve read to date!
This book was sooo good and I’m so sad it’s over!!! I absolutely love the characters and the story line. The writing is incredible and I wish there was a sequel or more books. I couldn’t put this one down!!
Favorite romantic novel of 2022!
Or dare I say: of all time! The protagonists will make you fall in love with them easily. I was impressed with the REAL topics that Fallon dives until and the world that she created. I am DYING for a sequel, spin offs, and more books from Fallon. Read this- you won’t regret it! I’m already contemplating how soon is too soon to reread it?
