Excellent People

Brother and sister in one flat: Vladimir the literary man, Vera the doctor, two excellent people who cannot live each other’s faith. Chekhov’s story is idealism against usefulness, a bond wearing thin, and the comedy of taking oneself for a cause. Vera wants work and a usable world; Vladimir wants an audience. Their kindness is real and not enough. A small Chekhov household in which ideas eat the supper. They share a flat and not a future. Idealism as a household pest.
