Fractured Communities

As increasing oil and gas companies develop wells in Navajo tribal lands and near Chaco Canyon and the archaeological treasures within, a century-old system of land allotments has created divisions among local residents. Some welcome fracking and the wealth it brings, while others worry about the damage done to the air and water quality and the health effects of ongoing methane emissions, which will be shared equally while the royalties are not.
