Publisher Description

Gregory Jackson was convicted, following a jury trial, of murder in the first degree. AS 11.41.100. Superior Court Judge J. Justin Ripley sentenced Jackson to fifty years imprisonment. Jackson is eligible for parole after twenty years pursuant to AS 12.55.125. Following his conviction and sentencing, Jackson filed a motion for a new trial based on his contention that he received ineffective assistance of counsel at his trial. Following an evidentiary hearing in the trial court, Judge Ripley denied Jacksons new trial motion. Jackson appeals to this court from the denial of his new trial motion. He also argues that his sentence was excessive.
