Grimm Academy Volume 2

Eventhough, I wasn't too familiar with 2 of the books, I was fully entertained. Love the sequence of events. Each seems to have a reason/essence plus the flow and pace where just right. These kept my interest engaged. Started to love all the characters.

Grimm Academy Volume 2 is the next installment of books within this series - again no wait and in order. This set features Lilies of Loss, The Frog Prince retelling; Huntsmen and Hoods, a Little Red Riding Hood retelling (and a favorite of mine); and Glints of Gold, a Rumpelstiltskin retelling. Each individual story yet interconnected with overlapping characters. I was fortunate to read each story individually and write my review per book. This volume is great in that you have the second set of three books with no wait time for the next novel to continue this ‘feel good’ saga. Plus you do not have to keep track of what story is next or if the series is in order.

Lilies and Loss book 4:
Marigold’s story and a retelling of The Frog Prince
I’m less familiar with this particular fairytale so I really enjoyed this story on its own merits. It’s a quick, fun read with a bit of drama, romance and magic. Of course with all good fairytales it also has a hea. I loved how Marigold was shy at first but grew into more than just what appeared to be a spoiled princess. She’s kind and brave and strong. I really like the setting of Grimm Academy which allows for the characters freedom to develop more in depth than what their fairytale twins usually have.

Huntsmen and hoods book 5:
Red’s story and a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood
A progressive and somewhat daring interpretation of the fairytale. I like that Ted doesn’t need a prince to save her she’s more than capable of saving herself. That doesn’t mean she goes it alone. She’s a pioneer determined to become a Huntsman even though they are a male only organization. When she does she fits in and earns friends with her skills and eagerness. Among them her trainer/partner/love interest Kit. Who says you can’t have you dreams and a hea too?

Glints of gold book 6:
Zerrin’s story and a retelling of Rumplestiltskin
Zerrin comes from a large, poor family of farmers. She’s offered a scholarship to Grimm Academy because she has a prophecy about her. She and her parents hope that she can find work as a lady’s maid after the academy to improve her life and perhaps her siblings lives as well. Zerrin never expected a prince. Yet when her friends finally convince her to go to a ball that’s exactly who she meets. They begin courting and he is kind and more than she ever dreamed of. His father does not approve but that doesn’t stop her Prince Andrew. Things are going well until she meets a man who has an offer for her and Zerrin knows her prophecy has begun.
A sweet version of this tale. A hea with a prince and the daughter of a farmer only in a fairy tale. Enjoyable, quick and clever story.
