Publisher Description
Actor, singer, songwriter Tyrese Gibson crafts a memoir filled with every emotion and life experience one could possibly imagine. With personal experiences paired with reflective questions based on his extremely popular blog piece, "The Love Circle", Tyrese hopes to inspire readers to pursue their dreams and not let life's obstacles stand in the way.
How to Get Out of Your Own Way is organized into a series of fundamental questions that helped Tyrese redefine who he was as a human being, and evolve into a new man. Tyrese stresses that life becomes infinitely richer when one takes the time to know him or herself and understand the true meaning of peace and fulfillment. This book is a guide to helping yourself, using his experiences as a learning tool. "It's not about talking down to people, it's about elevating them," Tyrese says.
Some of Tyrese's chapter-based questions include: How much do you love yourself? How much do you want for yourself? Why do men cheat? What is your bottom line? Are you ready for the next level?

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
This debut from the multi-platinum crooner is so heartfelt and inspirational it will likely leave readers with a new dedication to following their bliss. For Gibson, growing up in the hard-scrabble Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles was like a scene out of the movie Boys in the Hood, without a "pause" button he could press to make it stop. As a child, he witnessed domestic violence at home and murder and mayhem in the streets. When his precocious singing talents sparked hope, the scrappy young man pursued music with a solitary goal in mind: "to get out of the hood. I decided that I wanted better for myself and that I didn't want to be like anybody around me." With his emphasis on self-love, as well as falling in love with one's own ideas in order to execute them, Gibson lays out his modus operandi for success, including everything from organizational strategies and to-do lists to how to give yourself a stern pep talk when you need one. While much of the author's precepts are rooted in his abiding faith, even those without a Judeo-Christian background will be inspired by his swagger.

Must read
This book is truly an eye opener for those that really want to see. I overheard an interview on NY's Steve Harvey Morning Show and I was so captivated with what Tyrese was sharing over the air waves about his life/book that I couldn't wait to read it. I recall them speaking about breaking the "glass ceiling" and how the breaking of glass represented the surgery that takes place as you move into a new level of life. "Everybody that Comes with you can't Go with you. All day at work I was trying to figure out how/ when I was going to purchase the book. I had just made some major changes in my life and was on a hunt for inspirational truths about life and this book has both confirmed and inspired as well as elevated me to another level of confidence in myself. Thank you Tyrese for sharing your experiences and truths with the world. Now I must share this with my son and daughter because it is a reality check for male and female as well as the young and old.
May God continue to Bless You for Being a Blessing to Others.
