ze Roof Apocalyptic Storm Moments 3.2

Covid-19, a highly transmittable virus which had altered life across the planet in 2020. It affected everyone in so many ways - medically (all ages, a variety of afflictions leading to possible ‘long hauler’ issues, let alone death for many), economically (shutting down aspects of society to prevent spreading), and emotionally/psychologically (people fatigued doing what they should to combat the spread of the virus, let alone coping with the daily stress of the aforementioned and beyond). It was upon this pandemic landscape of horror I continued my 3rd year of capturing apocalyptic storm moments from ze roof.



Wearing masks and social distancing are the two predominant activities everyone should be participating in. For me, it was easy embracing this, especially when it came to photography. Decided early on to take an extreme break from my NYC Nights activity around the city and focus on singular shooting from my building’s rooftop. Was even more attentive of potential storm activity than the previous two seasons, hence a total of 14 storms covered this summer!



Earlier this year I added a new imaging weapon into the shooting arsenal, the Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 70-210mm f/4 ED SDM WR Lens. Having that extra focal length enabled bringing what’s distant closer, adding some interesting compositions and perspectives into the mix.



Weather wise, it was a funky hit or miss kinda year with the meteorological events covered. A healthy amount of the storms were certainly of an apocalyptic nature, especially one which was the most atmospheric and celestial I’ve ever witnessed. A smattering of storms seemed like they wanted to explode, yet instead sputtered. Rhythm was disrupted here and there, for reasons known only to Mother Nature.
