Welcome to a new half-human, half-vampire world where the stakes are even higher and everyone is out for blood—the first installment in the New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy spinoff series!
“We’re suckers for it.”—Entertainment Weekly
“Stands out from the crowded vampire genre.”—Associated Press
Alchemists protect vampire secrets—and human lives.
When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with Dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragonir—the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir—is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The Last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And how she has to live with one.
The Moroi court believe Jill Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside—and within—the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.

Fantastic
This book is just as good as the Vampire Academy series if not better. I cant wait for the next book.
Sydney is such a great character that I'm sure so many people will be able to relate to her. Known for being shy in her first introduction in Vampire Academy series, Sydney in this book finally starts to come out of her shell. I hope that in the next book with Sydney's new found strength, she will be open to more new experiences, especially when it come to Adrian.
Can't Wait
^I thought it was supposed to focus on Sydney & Jill. Not Rose & Dimitri.....but I hope it does.
I love Adrian!
This book was great! I loved the contrast of the different, yet familiar, characters. Those of you who just started on this book, I don't think you should be as confused, Richelle Mead did a good job opening on Sydney's character. However, if you are confused read Vampire Academy first. Then the rest. It's really good, plus Richelle Mead captures a teen mind wonderfully. :D
