“Women in an emotionally abusive marriage do not need another book on how to have a good marriage; those books rub salt in raw wounds. No, they desperately need this book so that they can diagnose just how bad their marriage is and then, with Leslie’s clear expertise, develop a plan that will either begin to turn their marriage around...or give them a wise route of escape.”

The emotionally destructive marriage

Ugh , not my favorite book. Lots of repetition. Tells the emotionally abused to seek the church in order to straighten him out, give the abuser chance after chance, and to keep loving him through it. Meanwhile the children are absorbing all of this behavior and Learn that this is how a marriage works. Children watch what you do rather than believe the words you say. The church in my opinion is not equipped to deal with such abuse. I know of a woman who did this and was told that they shouldn't trigger her husband to act this way so they are responsible. This of course emboldened this particular husband . Now people interpret scripture different ways on this topic and some things are up for debate, but I can say with certainty that the childish behavior by husbands in this manner are disgusting and chance after chance won't do a thing. It's a power trip, a grown man throwing a temper tantrum, this isn't leadership and sometimes it's best for the children to see strength in the mother to do what's right and remove them from an environment where a tyrant with a fragile ego rules the house. I grew up in a home like this and my mother must obey or there will be consequences. They have a parent child marital relationship and she does what he says, has to ask permission for everything. What she wears, how much she weighs, who she's friends with, whether she can have a glass of wine, and the list goes on and on. He reprimands her in front of others if she says something without permission to speak. As a result she acts like a small child seeking his approval. Ifyou let a husband carry on in this manner without an "or what" statement it will continue and worsen from what I have seen. At least she states that this is truly evil behavior and doesn't gaslight the abused for saying true things. So for that I give a star

Loved hearing this different message about the frustrations of those in an emotionally destructive marriage. This has given me more insight, encouragement and solid direction than any other book I’ve read.
