Not just a typical romance
I purchased this book expecting a typical romance. Sexy, protective, struggling boy meets wild, spoiled rich girl. Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan styled trouble came to mind. What I got was a gripping, heartfelt story about two people trying to find themselves in spite of opposition from every turn. Yes, Dani was rich but not spoiled. She used her success to help others because of her difficult and abusive childhood. And…because she recognized that without someone taking a chance on her, she may not have experienced her own success. Cope was definitely sexy and protective but not really struggling. He came from a rich family and could have taken the easy way through life but chose independence over reliance on his family – in spite of his parent’s constant attempts to interfere at every turn.
There was a lot I liked about this novel. The characters were well developed and their story drew you in from the first page. Dani is a tragic, wounded soul who turns to alcohol to fill the holes in her life. Cope is just the right man to show her love is a better solution. It was easy to relate to both Dani and Cope and believe they were going to overcome the odds and make it. The plot flowed smoothly and there was enough romance and suspense to keep you engaged until the very end. This book was a great read and I would highly recommend it for those looking for the escape of a good romance with the added bonus of depth and intrigue.
