Great Book
I just finished "Inside the Loop" and I loved it! I was prepared to dislike it as I don't really care for American contemporary "noir" detective novels. But, I was amazed. It was wonderful. The author's use of "intelligent" language in a style that usually has grunts kept me fascinated throughout the book. Great story and plot. Wonderful characters. (Perhaps because he is a playwright.) He was poetic without being pedantic. Kept the story moving even when he took time to philosophize. And despite the serious nature of the story there was always a bit of tongue-in-cheek underlying the characters and their relationships. It is hard for me to believe that I just read a contemporary American detective novel about murder, misogyny, obsession, big business, and Houston (awful city), and I loved it. There is a twinkle in the author's eye when he writes and it gives vibrant life to his creations. Mr. Kinghorn, keep them coming!
