You’ve likely used metaphors (and other non-literal comparisons) since you were five or six years old. And at some point you received (from a middle-school teacher?) some rules for use of metaphors. Should you believe those rules? Do you know how a metaphor-driven message intrigues and invites an audience? How, and why, do we use metaphors? Which types of metaphors are of high importance to understand how metaphors operate in our language? This publication introduces new, or early, critics to technical analysis terms, practices and insights which provide access to the work of metaphor rhetorical analysis in public messages.
