Terrorists tried to kill her. It took a dog to save her...
Former US Army CID agent Kate Holland endured eleven horrific hours as a POW in Afghanistan—hours she doesn’t fully remember. Now medically retired, her badge and confidence are gone. Back in her Arkansas hometown, Kate is ready to surrender to her demons and put her affairs in order.
But when a fellow vet loses his private battle, Kate takes on his final request. Fulfilling it drags her into a stateside war she never saw coming—one that forces her to face both external threats and the wreckage inside herself.
At the very edge of that fight, Kate saves the life of a wounded German Shepherd pup. In his eyes, she sees what she’s been missing all along: a reason to keep going.
🏆 Invisible Wounds is a 2024 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Top Pick for Best Investigator.
🎬 Hailed as "gripping and unforgettable", this series has been optioned by a Hollywood producer.
🔥 Written by a former US Navy Lt., this series is a real as it gets. There is a dog, but this is not a cozy mystery series. Cursing & gritty, graphic crime scenes abound throughout the Hidden Valor books. This series also contains a raw & honest portrayal of the themes of PTSD & suicide. If you like strong, female protagonists and seriously gritty, complex suspense that twists and turns all the way to The End, you'll love Candace Irving's Hidden Valor series.

Invisible Wounds Candace Irving
A very fast paced book based on a veteran US Army Special Agent Kate Holland who was a POW in Afghanistan for a short time after the humane she was riding in drove over a landmine. She managed to get out of the vehicle with her partner but the humane caught fire and there were no other survivors. Her partner died shortly after she pulled him out the wreckage. She was awarded a Silver Star but dosen’t remember her her battle that ensued and her killing of numerous enemy combatants. She was medically retired after suffering numerous wounds. She has returned to her home town in in Braxton Arkansas. She has severe PTSD. A fellow vet and close friend of hers loses his own battle with depression and commits suicide. Crime scene investigators found a note he had written to her asking her to contact his father. An excellent read that has my highest recommendation!!
